Navy Memorial Plaque

The Navy Memorial in Washington, DC has a Commemorative Plaque Wall that offers individuals and groups the opportunity to create a permanent memorial by sponsoring a plaque dedicated to an individual, group, ship, squadron, command, battle or event within the U.S. Sea Services, while supporting the mission of the Navy Memorial. The USS James Monroe Association became aware of this in May, 2008 when the members participating in James Monroe’s 250th Birthday celebration visited the Navy Memorial to participate in a ceremony to present a wreath in honor of our shipmates who are on Eternal Patrol. After this visit, the members of the association voted to allocate the funds to “Honor the Boat and All Her Crew Who Proudly Served Our Country”.

On May 9, 2009 a number of crew members participated in a plaque dedication ceremony at the Navy Memorial. Here is a picture of the plaque that is now part of the Commemorative Plaque Wall.
